Future Home of a Community Garden!
The congregation of Knox United Church has recently applied to host a community garden. …. Why?
We are enthusiastic about using our perfectly sunny location to transform a parcel of our land into a thriving area for produce. Our mission has many goals, but foremost would be to reach out to our community by helping people to produce food locally, reducing the need for food to be transported over great distances at a cost to the environment. During our first year, spring of 2016, we hope to offer approximately 15 plots to the public. By providing garden plots to those in the community who love to garden but have no space, we offer “good health for the soul”.
We are also committed to sharing a portion of the produce from our gardens with local food banks and other community organizations who distribute food to those in need.
The first thing on our agenda is an information meeting to share the details with you and answer your questions. We have been working with Just Food, a grassroots, non-profit organization that supports community based projects with its community garden network, advice on best practices, and much more. We would like to share our vision and new-found knowledge on Thursday March 31 at 7:30 PM. Please join us for this informative evening; we promise you coffee and dessert once your questions have been answered.
