For those of you that were unable to attend the AGM last Monday please see the year in review below. Please know that you are welcome at any of our monthly meetings and we are always looking for input from the community. Hope to see you at our many events!
The State of the Manordale-Woodvale Community Association
This is something new that is being added to our AGM this year. We always give you reports of all of the events but we do not give you a synopsis of the total year in review. I felt we owed it to you our community to know how we feel that the year went.
The year once again started with all members of the executive stating their goals for the year. With a new member on the executive and a new president in place it was interesting to see if we were to maintain the status quo or go in a new direction. It was quickly obvious that the executive was going to go somewhere in the middle. All previous events such as Winter Carnival, Corn Roast and Clean Up Day were to be maintained. Community Day was to be kept but with a twist, we were going to make it a day time event and more family oriented. As well, we were going to bring back Garage Sale and add a Christmas Party. We are happy to report, thanks to all members of the MWCA executive as well as the many volunteers in our community all of our events to date have been a success. Our Christmas party is a month away and we expect it to be a success as well.
As well, it was our second year to use social media to reach our friends our neighbors. November 2013 saw the launch of the MWCA web page. We now have both a website and Facebook page that helps us to reach both members of our community and those beyond our borders. We are, also, working on developing our version of membership has its privileges for those of you that have a MWCA membership. More details will be forthcoming on our website in the coming months.
November 1st saw Laurie Bown take over as our new building manager. After a long and exhaustive search we are happy to report that Laurie has stepped forward to fill the large shoes left behind by Ray Martinuk. We wish to thank Ray for his many years of service and we hope that we can count on his continued support going forward; albeit in a less active role. We, also, wish to thank Dave Hay for the assistance he has given Ray for the last while.
We have forged a relationship with NROCRC over the last year. We are presently working with them in developing a youth group. We look forward to working with them in the future on other projects that will benefit the community we live in.
In closing, let me start by saying many thanks to my fellow members of the executive, their families, my family and all of you. Without your help and support none of what we do would be possible. What we do we do for you – our community. Many of us, if not all of us, have been part of Manordale for more than 20 years. We love this community and want you to experience the community spirit that we have all experienced. However, in order for us to succeed we need volunteers and input of what you would like us to do and how we are doing. Please feel free to contact us through the website or Facebook if you have any questions or concerns.
